Tax Credits

If you are considering making energy efficient improvements, as a home owner you may be eligible for tax credit due to the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009.  This tax credit is good only to homeowners making energy efficient improvements on their existing primary residents.  The improvements are installing a new hot water heater or new HVAC equipment.  Not only would you benefit at tax time but can reduce your energy usage bill up to 40%.

Qualifying Energy Efficient Equipment

Installing qualified equipment such as heat pumps, central air conditioners, hot water heaters, furnaces and boilers will entitle an existing homeowner a tax credit of 30% of the installation costs but not more than $1500.  Because manufacturers improve products it is important to check with a contractor as to which equipment qualifies.

By upgrading today with the latest advancements in HVAC technology means the equipment you purchase can pay itself off in no time!

Additional Improvements That Offer Tax Credit

Improvements such as roofing, new windows, doors and insulation are also a tax credit from the federal government. Keep in mind that as a homeowner there is a maximum on all qualified improvements made in 2011.

The maximum tax credit is $300. If you are not sure or still do not understand about the tax credit for energy effiecient equipment improvements please refer to www. IRS.gov for important tax information.

Changes in Stimulus Bill - Homeowner's Tax Credit Programs

There have been a few changes to homeowner's tax credit programs.  In the past there was a $500 lifetime cap for similar tax credits from 2006 through 2007.  Now the U.S. government is allowing tax payers that claimed tax credits in those years may still be able to take the maximum or difference for the full $1500.

Do yourself a favor and work with a qualified contractor or manufacturer to make sure that the HVAC and other energy efficient equipment you install qualifies for the homeowners tax credit programs.
